Montpelier Management Services is a small consultancy firm based in Devon, created in 2018, focused on supporting the NHS and Social Care and those who interact with them. The Managing Director is Nicola Gurr who left the NHS in October 2018 after many years working there, first as a nurse and latterly as a senior commissioner within a Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). In between, she has worked within NHS contracting teams (in providers and CCGs) and public health as well as leading teams, facilitating meetings and heading up projects and programmes.

Since Montpelier MS’s establishment, Nicola has undertaking a variety of roles, including: an Investigating Officer for a County wide infection outbreak; worked on revising a CCGs Constitution and produced associated documentation; written and delivered different training packages, such as on risk management and leadership skills; and has successfully coached in interview techniques. She has supported small care organisations with tender submissions, both with training and reviewing previous bids for that organisation as well as writing and editing of new bids.

She as recently written an opinion piece titled ‘Concerns over Conflicts of Interest in healthcare: Have we learned nothing over the past two decades?’ which reflects on issues raised in the recent Cumberlege Report and can be accessed here.

Currently she is working with a Devon wide charity, an independent patient transport provider and working within networks of Associates across The South West and England.

Our Services

We offer a range of different service models to support your needs, all of which are tailored to support the organisation we work with.
We work with clients on a one-off basis to deliver a specific objective. This could be:

• A Training package for some of your teams, from new to experienced leaders, on a number of management related topics such as on good governance, having difficult conversations, creating successful teams, performance management and interviewing techniques
• Getting a project started
• Support submitting a tender or grant application
• Undertaking independent reviews
• Acting as an independent chair for assurance meetings or post CQC review meetings

• Developing business plans
• Ongoing training and support

Recent assignments include:

• Delivering a training programme on risk management and risk awareness across a large hospital
• Delivering a workshop for a small care home on good leadership and stress management
• Supporting the development of a bid for a small care provider
• Helping a CCG in developing their constitution, standing orders and key Terms of References
• Part of a large investigation team undertaking a governance review
• Writing tenders and grant applications for a variety of providers for both medium sized charities and new entry providers into the NHS IT market.
